Our home is two years old and situated only 2 km from the historic centre of Bendigo. We love living here and take good care of the house and garden. We don't allow people to smoke inside. The home has a modern kitchen and a large open living area which opens out to a large deck overlooking the Australian native garden. The house is light, airy and comfortable and suits a relaxed, casual lifestyle. It is in a quiet location but not far from shops and restaurants.
We also have access to a beach home situated in Lorne on the Great Ocean Road and this would be available for use on a limited basis.
We are Roger and Miranda, a couple of retired teachers with two adult sons. We have travelled to Europe a few times in the past, but have never tried home exchange before. We would love to repeat the experience of living for a few weeks in a community in Europe, getting to know the people who live there. We are interested in wine, food, cooking and the good things in life. We love local food markets, galleries and music. We enjoy a casual lifestyle and prefer regional environments to large metropolitan cities.
Bendigo is a city of bold statements and this central Victorian cultural hotspot lives up to every one of them. The showpiece of Victoria and once the richest city in the world during the gold boom, Bendigo, with a population of about 100,000, is one of Australia's most beautiful regional centres. It lies in the heart of a rich wine-growing region and is famous for its beautiful wines made from grapes grown and ripened in the central Victorian sunshine. Wineries can be visited and offer tasting and gourmet food experiences. In Bendigo you are only about an hour and a half by road or rail from Melbourne, a vibrant capital city with world famous shopping, restaurants, sporting and cultural events. It is also only an hour by road to Daylesford, the spa centre of Victoria or to the Murray river and the historic river Port of Echuca. In two hours you can be in Geelong, which is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and the surf beaches of Western Victoria.
