Acerca de nuestra casa

Our Edwardian house is situated in one of the loveliest streets in South Hobart - only 20mins walk into the city but a world away from the hustle and bustle. The area is well known for its strong sense of community and friendliness. The house has a lovely garden at the rear and wonderful views from the front patio.
The house has been recently renovated to a high standard with new bathrooms and a modern kitchen which is a cook’s delight. As in most older houses, the ceilings are high and the rooms are large. There are two bedrooms- one has a Queen size bed and en-suite and the other has a King size bed. Every room is spacious and filled with light from the high windows which face the outside. There are original timber floors throughout with antique rugs adding a touch of warmth and colour. It’s centrally heated and so cosy in cooler weather. Souvenirs of our travels and artwork collected over many years decorate the rooms. Overall it’s a very happy home.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We - Stephen and Cheryl - have travelled extensively over many years but don't want to stop yet! We are now both retired. Stephen was in public service administration before he 'retired' and then owned and operated a cafe for many years; Cheryl was a university lecturer in medical education. We enjoy our community of friends in Tasmania but will always be interested in meeting new people in different places and sharing experiences.

Our neighbourhood is one of the oldest in Hobart so you will see many houses dating from the 1830’s to others from late and early 20th century. Overall the area is very quiet despite it being so close to the city’s main access roads. Many of the older grand houses have large beautiful gardens - usually English in style because of the age in which they were planted. The area is known for its strong sense of community and you will find that generally people are friendly and helpful.
Close by - a 2min walk - is an excellent small supermarket, a butcher, a pharmacy, a post office, a doctors surgery, a hairdresser, two very good cafes and a highly regarded Thai restaurant.
It’s a short walk into Hobart - now regarded as one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Australia - mostly because of its setting around an active port surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and areas where past history is preserved and celebrated. The city has a many bars and restaurants renowned for providing amazing food , wine, spirits- mostly locally sourced.
Even closer is a wide range of excellent restaurants and cafes - very popular with locals as well as others from far and wide - and pubs which offer good food and often music as well.
For those who enjoy the outdoors there are beautiful parks, bike paths and walking tracks. The most popular are those on Mount Wellington which cater for all ages and abilities. To get to the city you can walk through bush gardens alongside The Rivulet which was once the main water supply for the earliest settlement in Hobart Town.

Restaurantes
Most of the best restaurants are found around the harbour and in Salamanca Place.
Por la noche
Similarly most ‘nightlife’ occurs in various harbourside venues and in Salamanca. The first Casino in Australia is still a wonderful venue for dining and shows. It’s on the edge of the city at Sandy Bay.
Cafés
Our favourites are Ginger Brown and Bear with Me - both very close in South Hobart.
Compras
The city has most of the usual department stores found in other capital cities as well as many small boutiques specialising in Tasmanian made fashions and other products.
Cultura e historia
Our area has some of early Hobart’s most important historical landmarks - The Female Factory (a place where female convicts were housed and put to work) and The Cascade Brewery.
Excursiones
In one day: Take a river cruise to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) or south to Peppermint Bay for lunch; visit Port Arthur, Mt Field National Park, The Huon Valley, Richmond and the Coal River Valley wineries. Bruny Island is doable in a day - but not in peak times in summer
