“We've just completed an outstanding house-swap with Keith & Trish. Their home is in a beautiful setting and is very comfortable and cosy. The location of Wallaga Lake is excellent for experiencing all the wonderful things the New South Wales south coast has to offer. Among other things we watched whales off the coast of Bermagui and enjoyed strolling around the heritage listed rural village of Central Tilba. When home, we watched kangaroos peacefully grazing on both the front and back lawns....how good is that! Keith & Trish are a charming couple and we're so glad we got to meet and enjoy a meal with them prior to the swap commencing. Communicating with them was very easy and they left our home in immaculate condition. Many thanks to you both for a memorable house swap. ”

Acerca de nuestra casa
Our home is on 1.5 acres, on the shores of Wallaga Lake, a coastal lake that enters the ocean about 3 kms from our place. About half the 300 km perimeter of the lake is National Park, so there is a feeling that the area is natural and unspoilt. The outlook is to Guluaga, a sacred mountain in Aboriginal folklore. For every house you can see there are a hundred trees.
Our home was designed by a well-known architect and constructed in the eighties. Approx 140 sq metres plus 100 sq. meters)verandahs. We have recently renovated the house. Each of the two bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom. The kitchen/living/dining is open plan, around 70 sq metres. There is a separate office with computer, printer etc. Every room except the bathrooms has a fine view of the lake. It is comfortable in all seasons, and sometimes utterly beautiful.
Our land, and indeed most of our neighbours, is without fences so a mob of around (friendly, non-dangerous) 25 kangaroos live in the area and usually visit at least once a day. The birdlife is extraordinary, and friendly. (about half the perimeter of the lake is national park). We sit on the verandah and look towards the lake (thirty metres away) and in a few minutes will see perhaps a dozen species of birds, from wrens to eagles.
The kitchen is new with high quality appliances, including dishwasher. There are paintings on the walls, and a good library. We are aiming to grow most of our own vegetables ( lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflowers, beetroot, chokoes, peas, beans, asparagus, parsnips, turnips, carrots and more)and fruit (fig, persimmon, lime, oranges, lemons, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, plums, grapes) so there is always something fresh and delicious for the picking. We keep hens in the rose garden, so we enjoy free range eggs. We can arrange for these to be looked after by friends if you would prefer not be involved. But the eggs are superb! We have a 2017 model car available for swap which can be used to explore the many national parks in the area.
Even during the winter months the days are normally from 16-24 degrees. It rarely gets below 12 degrees. Spring is good here, not only for the flowers and trees, but also because migrating whales pass close to shore and are often seen. Summer is warm, rather than hot (max usually 24-28) We usually swim all year-round, but the water temperature can drop to 16 degrees in winter. The weather is perfect for hiking through the dozens of National Parks. Although this area is halfway between Sydney and Melbourne it is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Australia.
The nearest town is Bermagui, famous for its fishing. Offshore: tuna, marlin, swordfish, inshore: snapper, bream, salmon, flathead. There are several good restuarants. As you can see from the aerial view we live on a peninsula that juts into the lake, we are a small but very happy community, and vistors will find a warm welcome. Canberra is 3 hours away, snowfields are 3 hours away, ocean beach is 3 hours away, and lake is 3 seconds away.

“We had a great experience exchanging with Keith and Trish. They were very helpful in the planning of our time in Australia, not only in Eden but up the coast as well. They took excellent care of our home in British Columbia and we have no doubt that you will have an excellent experience exchanging with them as well. Eden is a pretty town with gorgeous views and lots of stunning national parks within an easy drive. We did a lot of different hikes - along the coast, up a mountain, along pathways thick with kangaroos. We were there for a week and could easily have spent much longer. We really enjoyed exploring a part of the country that we otherwise would likely have missed altogether. Keith and Trish's home was a very comfortable base for us. We enjoyed preparing meals in the large, modern kitchen and having a drink on the back deck overlooking the gorgeous gardens at the end of the day. We particularly liked watching the varied and colourful birds skipping from tree to tree, flower to flower, across the garden. Our time in Eden was undoubtedly a highlight of our trip to Australia.”

We are on the coast between Sydney (5 hours by road)and Melbourne. Canberra is 3 hours. There is an airport at Moruya, 50 minutes away, which connects to Sydney and Melbourne. The nearest town is Bermagui, a small, charming fishing village with a modest but strong art scene (Sculpture by the Ocean each year) some very good restaurants, and superb seafood. There is an excellent artisan bread shop, several restaurants including seafood, vegetarian, authentic Indian, African/Euro, German. Fishing charters are available, and bigame fish such as marlin and tuna are frequently caught. Our specific neighbourhood of a few dozen houses built on a peninsula that juts into Wallaga Lake. The neighbourhood is quiet and serene. We have travelled extensively in Australia and overseas and this is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt places we have ever seen. We have a double kayak which can be used. There is an excellent surfing beach within a kilometre and dozens more nearby including calm water swimming. There are a number of decent to spectacular oceanside golf courses within half and hour's drive. There are lots of beautiful walks around the oceans, estuaries and mountains. Kayaking in the lake is wonderful, with a sanctuary a short paddle away. There are large numbers of swans, and more than a hundred species of birds. Sometimes even seals will turn up in the lake. The main southern migration of whales to Antarctica passes Bermagui, and for a couple of months
it is easy to spot whales from the headlands. Or you can get close with with various boats that offer whale watching trips.
