Acerca de nuestra casa

What a better way to get away from the city on a warm summers evening than to sit out on one of the terraces with a glass of wine in the shade of our trees or in the evening sun, and listen to the stream at the bottom of the garden? Our house is situated on the edge of a picturesque Austrian village, which offers essential local services and plenty of options for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, tennis, skiing or snow-shoe walking. In the surrounding Vienna Woods there are unlimited outdoor possibilities and the wealth of opportunities that the city of Vienna has to offer are just a 40 minute drive away.
Our house itself is secluded but not isolated, with 2 balconies and 2 terraces as well as a large garden including a meadow, small stream, fruit trees, vegetable garden, children´s Wendy house, swing and trampoline and barbeque options. We purchased the house 5 years ago and are in the process of renovating and modernizing throughout, as well as developing the garden. Kitchen, dining room, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom have been fully refurbished and the rest will follow! The entire house is however in full use.
On the ground floor is the newly renovated and fitted kitchen and dining room with panorama window and terrace. The oak kitchen with granite surface includes all new equipment (oven, steam oven, induction field, dishwasher, extractor fan and double American-style fridge). The living room is large and south-facing with a view to the garden and access to the second terrace on the ground floor. The master bedroom (with waterbed),en-suite bathroom and child´s bedroom are also on the ground floor. The bathroom has both bath tub and shower, double sink and an in-built TV. The floors are largely wooden or tiled with floor heating.
Upstairs is a large studio-like open room with open fireplace, grand piano and balcony – perfect for a relaxing evening, a quiet moment or extra space for extra guests! There is a guestroom too (double bed) with balcony and a bathroom.
The house is complete with full cellar including heating room, garden room and washroom, as well as an additional cellar room adapted for bouldering and mini-gym! We have bicycles, skis and sledges available for use.

Cleaner can be arranged.

  1. My wife (English) and I (Austrian) met while travelling in China in 1995 and haven´t lost our desire to discover new places and experiences, meet new people and have our eyes opened to the world. The last 5 years we have focused our attention largely on our daughter (aged 5) and house, but the desire to travel and learn remains as real as ever! We hope that you might share our philosophy a little and would like to spend some time here.

The village of Kaumberg ( www.kaumberg.at ) has a population of 1000 and although small, it offers a shop with post office facilities, café, 3 restaurants, playground with skateboard facilities, tennis court, small ski lift, church, doctor and vet surgery. It is situated at 500m and the castle ruins of the Araburg at 800m offer superb views of the surrounding countryside and distant mountains. In summer there are countless possibilities for walking, biking (including a local free bicycle-hire scheme), golfing (the nearest 18 hole golf course is 15 minutes by car http://www.adamstal.at and has been rated under the top ten golf courses in Europe), swimming and outdoor climbing. The area is known for its local “heuriger” which sell their own beverages from the local apple and pear trees as well as food produce. About half of the local farms are organic and we enjoy collecting milk on a regular basis from our local farmer. Winters can provide ample opportunities for skiing, snow-shoe walking and ice skating, but if conditions are not good enough the nearest ski area is a 50 minute drive.
With Vienna just a 40 minute drive by car, the sights of the capital city are easily accessible with park-and-ride facilities available next to the nearest underground station in the south of the city. This year´s 150th birthday anniversary of Gustav Klimt makes a visit to Vienna particularly worthwhile with ongoing exhibitions throughout 2012.
Additionally, there are numerous other places of interest within an hour of our home:
For music-lovers – Eisenstadt (Haydn), Baden (Beethoven) and of course Vienna
For outdoor-lovers – local foothills with all the above options; the outlying Alps (Schneeberg, Rax); Neusiedlersee for wind-surfing….; River Danube
For relaxation-lovers – a selection of hot springs on the doorstep (Baden, Wiener Neustadt, Lutzmannsburg
Climbing peilstein
Motorbike routes
The surrounding with its hills is a heaven for climbers (one of the biggest climbing garden with 750+ routes in Austria right in the Viennese woods, just 10 min away from our home)as well as for motor bike fans, with lots of windy rounds to discover.
