“The house of Stijn and Maartje family in Gent is big, spacious, and luminouos. The living room is integrated with the kitchen and directly connected to the garden, so that there is plenty of light and space. The kitchen is new and fully equipped. Quite close to the house there is a bus stop that will take you directly to the downtown. Gent is a really nice city, full of lovely places to visit. We also enjoyed a lot biking the city and the surroundings. In front of the house there is a very nice playground where our two children enjoyed a lot. We also visited Bruges and other villages close to Gent. The hosts also provided useful information about places to visit, restaurants and supermarkets where we can buy food and all the necessary items. When we came back, our house was clean and tidy, in perfect conditions. Our experince in Gent was wonderful and we really recommend the exchange with this family for two reasons: the destination and because Stijn and Maartje will take care of your house. ”

Acerca de nuestra casa
We live in a big house with a lot of light and a lovely south-oriented garden.
During spring 2017, we have completely renovated our house integrating our garage as part of the downstairs living area and leading to a big open space integrating living room, kitchen, children's area and with a view on both our garden in the back and forest in front of the house. The back of the living room is all windows. It costed us blood, sweat and tears, but we love the result :-)
On the first floor we have two large bedrooms, bathroom and bureau and washing room. The master bedroom has a big bed (220x160, because I am 2 metres tall :-) the room of Noah & Miro has a bunk bed where even 2 adults could sleep. In the living room downstairs we also have a couch that could serve as another double bed.
On the second floor (attic which we also renovated) we have an extra guest bedroom which can also serve as a children's playing room. Here we have a baby bed and one adult bed.
In the garden, we have a little garden house where we keep all our garden equipment. Our children have a little house of their own where they can 'cook' and play as much as they want.

“We've spent a wonderful week at Stijn's and Maartje's. The house is comfortable, well equipped and perfect for children. The location is pretty convenient, close to the tram (you can be at the center of Gent in no time) and the highway - 5 minutes, so you can go to many other places very quickly. Stijn and Maartje have been very helpful and friendly, we found back our home just as we left it. We truly recommend to make an exchange with them.”
“We had a non simultaneous exchange with Maartje and Stijn (and Noah!) at the end of October and we liked very much their house, full of light and the city of Gent, a lovely town with old houses, the canal, a castle in the city... We went there by train and it is a convenient place with the tramway and buses, or by bike. We also went twice to Brussels as the trains were practical (25 mn) and the city very interesting. It was also very nice to meet the family before to go back to France.”
“Nous sommes ravis de cet échange! Famille accueillante et sympathique, tout était parfait. Gand est magnifique, nous aurions bien aimé encore quelques jours de plus! Bien située et pratique pour les moyens de transport. N'hésitez pas !”
“We made a perfect exchange and spent our Easter Holidays in this quiet and charming house in Gent. We had a lovely time! The house was clean, spacious and quiet with lots of toys for kids. We visited Brugge, Antwerp and Brussels but Gent has won our prize and stolen our hearts! Amazing town, full of History and charm. We really enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend this place for exchange.”
“We (2 adults and 3 teenagers) enjoyed a great weekend in Stijn and Maartje's spacious house in Gent. The house is situated with easy access to the highway and has a good connection to the city centre as well. There we found easy and cheap parking in this beautiful city. Gent has a rich cultural heritage: it was the place of birth to the greatest emperor of the Habsburg Empire and has many beautiful houses around the canals that remind us of the position that Gent had in early industry and trade. It used to be the second largest city of Europe at a time. Take a canal tour, after that you?ll find all historical sights easy to recognize and it gives a good overview of the centre. Gent also offers the good things of life that Belgians are so good at: chocolate, beer, excellent food in a great ambiance of this historic place. The house offers a great lounge and many nicely furnished rooms. Due to the great weather (26 degrees in October!) we also enjoyed sitting in their beautiful garden. We were welcomed by the great beers of Belgium, asking to be drunk, next to the welcoming letter of Stijn. We stayed for a weekend, but we could have enjoyed it for much longer if we consider the hospitality and the great welcome! When we returned home we found the house in great order and would be happy to exchange with them another time.”
“We spent a very nice spring holiday in Stijn and Maartje´s house in Ghent. They live in a green, peaceful area very close to the city centre. We enjoyed both staying at home with a nice garden, and visiting monuments and museums in the town. Ghent is a fascinating city with a lot of things to offer! Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp are also very close. Stijn and Maartje left a lot of information for us, in addition to chocolate and different kinds of beer! When we came back home, everything was perfect and there were some flowers on the table. Thank you very much for everything!!!”

We have 2 little boys (2011 & 2014), called Noah and Miro. My girlfriend is working as a teacher and I am working as a sales director in the medical field.
We bought our house in 2009 and since then we have continuously been investing in its renovation. We especially love the space, light and its location. I was born in Brussels but I am now really fascinated about Gent.
We like travelling a lot and we are open for any kind of destination, it may be one of our neighbour countries or a little bit further, nature, sea, mountains, city as long as we can relax and enjoy life it is okay for us. Since our children are still young, we will not go for transatlantic travels. We like the social and the surprise aspect of exchanging houses. We like to trust people and give always the benefit of the doubt.
We have done a dozen of exchanges to England (1x), Spain (3x), Holland (10x) and France (5x), Belgium (1x) and all of them have been a great success.
Looking forward to exchange our home with you! We could also offer a car as part of the exchange.
We guarantee that all e-mails will be answered.

Our house is located close to the city center of Gent. We have a very good public transportation network close to our house. You can take the bus to the trainstation and the tram to the city center. You can also go by bike to the center of Gent.
From Gent you can easily visit Brugge, Brussels, Antwerp and you are close to Holland (Amsterdam, 1,5 hours by train) and France (Paris, 1,5 hours by train).
A car is not really necessary to visit Belgium and neighbour countries.
Gent is a very lively city with a lot of restaurants, bars, music festivals, theatres, markets,... Not only Gent but also several other cities are very pleasant and definitely worth to pay a visit. We can give you a full list and website with all the events.
Gent is a historical city in the same style as Brugge (Venice of Northern Europe), but much bigger and livelier in the evening. Old houses and façades, small cobbled streets, canals and rivers, parks,...
If you want to visit Belgium, Gent is an excellent choice!
By the way, best Travel 2011 of Lonely Planet has awarded Gent with the 7th Place and we can only agree.
In front of our house there is a forest and very recently a huge park has been created behind the forest as a part of a new green 'lung' the city of Gent has established. Very nice playground for children is also located just behind the forest.
Indoor playground also at 5 minute walk
