Acerca de nuestra casa

We're now actively looking for an exchange with anywhere in New Zealand for Feb/March 2020 - non-simultaneous if you like. With Victoria's mild climate, you'll find our house bright, cheerful and warm if you come in the winter, and never too hot if you come in summer. The main floor has glowing Douglas fir flooring throughout and includes a well-designed updated kitchen with table and stools for two, a separate dining room as well as bedroom, bathroom and living room. The kitchen door opens to a two-level deck overlooking our fenced back garden, full of flowers, shrubs and vegetables; other seating areas let you follow the sun around or find a nice shady spot to rest. While our house is ideal for the two of us, we can put a queen-sized air bed in the large carpeted music room downstairs to provide additional sleeping accommodation if needed. The second full bathroom, kitchen and laundry are conveniently close. The front garden is now fenced to keep out the urban deer - they're lovely to look at, but with this mesh fence you can admire them without any concerns and they can't damage our garden!

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are Anne and Peter, an active retired couple who love Victoria for its mild climate and wrap-around scenery. Our neighbourhood is very popular with walkers and you'll notice how quiet and peaceful it is here, even though the centre of the city is only 10 minutes away by car or bus. We walk, bike or bus to most places and the bicycles might be available for your use during your stay, just ask. You'll see that music is one of our hobbies (there are tons of CDs for you to enjoy) and we're keen gardeners too.

We have done many very successful exchanges, to places both far and near. This is our only home but we have done several non-simultaneous exchanges - so if that's what you'd prefer, just ask!

Anne immigrated from England many years ago, and while it's always good to visit family there (and in New Zealand and Australia) there are so many other parts of the world to see. We're now interested in trying a longer-term exchange in our winter, any time from November to March.

Our home is in a lovely, quiet residential neighbourhood 10 minutes by car from the lively centre of Victoria, the capital of the Province of British Columbia. With bus stops just a few minutes away from us many visitors find it easier to leave their car at home or to walk from our house into town along the stunning waterfront, with views of the Olympic Mountains every step of the way. We're also just a short walk to beaches and parks and the shops, restaurants, cafes, library and community centre of Oak Bay Village. Everyone loves the world-renowned Butchart Gardens, and a little further afield you can sign on with bear-watching tours. Ferries sail from Victoria to Vancouver, the Gulf Islands, and to Seattle and Port Angeles, both in Washington State.

Victoria is a lovely small city with the mildest climate in Canada, never too hot or too cold. You can ski in Whistler, take a 30 minute direct fight, and be golfing in Victoria that same day - we have many world-class golf courses open year-round.

Downtown Victoria is a paradise for foodies but you can find really good food just a few minutes on foot from us, at Bon Sushi, for example

We have 2 good pubs (the Pennyfarthing in Oak Bay village and Christie's even closer. Dozens of bars and pubs in Downtown Victoria.
Victoria and Oak Bay have dozens of excellent coffee shops serving fresh, light food.
De paseo
As walkers and cyclists, we know there are dozens of really nice walks in our neithbourhood, whether you're looking for a gentle stroll or vigorous exercise. We have lots of information for you.
Tofino is the place to go for big surf and storm-watching. Or take the Coho across the strait of Juan de Fuca for a wonderful trip to the Olympic Mountains in the USA.
