Acerca de nuestra casa

Our recently built home is a traditional style longère (elongated farmhouse) of southern Brittany on 3,600²meters of property ringed in oak trees and hedgerows. We find our home to be a comfortable compromise between the modern and traditional. Our main living space is a long open room with pinewood floors, an exposed beam ceiling, and plenty of bookshelves. The modern well equipped stainless and wood kitchen is separated from the main room by a beech wood toped counter/bar and has a black stone tile floor. The downstairs is completed by an entry hall, a toilet, a cozy office/guestroom and a utility room with a washer and dryer. The upstairs is floored in oak and has a master bedroom with an oak four post bed and dressing room. There are 3 other bedrooms, a toilet and a teak bathroom with tub and shower. Access to the backyard is through 2 pairs of french doors out on to a 60²meter deck on which we often take our summer meals, (if we are not picnicking at the beach). The yard is ideal for a BBQs or a vicious game of croquet or badminton. The yard leads to the back pasture where we keep our chickens and a small flock of sheep (a small black race known as "moutons de Ouessant"). All of which need no tending, except to collect fresh eggs each day. In the pasture we also have a trampoline, a tree swing and a skyhook leading down from one of the big oaks. The front of the house has circular gravel drive and plenty of parking. We also offer the use of our 2 cars.

Our home is located in a small outlaying thatched roof village of the 11th centaury medieval walled town of Guerande, which has recently earned the label "City of Art and History". The vast "Marais Salants" (salt marshes), from which the famous salt of Guerande has been cultivated by hand since Gallo-roman times, is a micro ecosystem rich in wildlife and history that draws thousands visitors from all over Europe. Among the many beaches along our coast there is the celebrated beach of the town of "la Baule". There are also a number of very quaint fishing villages like "Piriac sur mer" and "le Croisic". A hike along the "sentier cotier" (customs trail) of the "côte sauvage"(rugged coast) from le "Croisic to le Pouligen" is one of our favorite Sunday pass times. Inland from the coast there is the Regional Natural Park of the Briere, a huge natural wetlands where man has coexisted with nature since Neolithic times. There are many horse, bike and hiking trails that permit you to discover the park or you can rent one of the traditional local boats and discover the heart of the Briere on the many canals that crisscross this remarkable site. A visit to the Briere wouldn't be complete without going to the village of Kerinhet, a reconstitution of an 18th century thatched roof village. Paris is located 3 hours away by train and our home is located about 45 min. from the two major metropolitan centers, Vannes and Nantes. You can visit; http://www.presquiledeguerande.com/FO/Page
