Acerca de nuestra casa

This is a medieval stone townhouse that is in the "centre ville" of Privas, the capital of the Ardeche department. The house dates to the XIII or XIV century and the foundations back perhaps to the X century. A complete renovation was completed in 2007. The house has three levels. On the street level is a small bedroom suite with bath including a shower and toilet. The medieval spiral stone staircase leads up to the main living area. Here one finds a small utility room with washing machine and toilet. A carved stone doorway leads into the main living area with a modern kitchen, dining area and a comfortable seating area. Just off this level is a large terrace of twenty-five (25) square meters - 3 meters above the pedestrian square - that has great ambiance and views to the hills surrounding the town. Continuing up the stone staircase one comes to the main sleeping area. It includes a bath with shower and toilet, a sitting area with chair, bookcase and a double bed. A door leads to the bedroom with two single beds. All plumbing, electrical, appliances and furniture were installed brand new in 2007.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. My wife and I are retired high technology managers (IBM) and we live in California. We are fit and active and we travel internationally several times a year. We have lived in Europe (3.5 years in France and 3 years in Roma!) so living and traveling there presents us no problem whatsoever. We have traveled to Australia, Africa and India on extended visits and done several home exchanges. Our main travel interests are music, art, archeology and history. We do not like to spend time in hotels so home exchange suits us very well. We are mostly interested in exchanges of 2 or more weeks and since this is our second home we are open to non-simultaneous exchanges. We both speak somewhat passable French and can get by in Italian. On some trips one or two of our adult children will travel with us but mostly it is just the two of us.

"Centre Ville" says it all: Restaurants, cafes, bars, bakeries, butchers, a small supermarket, and a twice weekly open air market in the main town square (pedestrian only!) and all within a one or two minute walk from our front door. Spring and summer finds many musical, sporting, and theatrical events plus special night markets in the center of Privas. The twice weekly (Wednesday and Saturday mornings) market covers much of the center of the town and this market originated via a royal decree in the XIII century and hence is one of the oldest markets in Europe. Privas is a small (9000 inhabitants) Provincial capital and our townhouse is on a residential, quiet square that links to the town's main square - Place de la l'Hotel de Ville - by a covered medieval street (called an Impasse) that is only 30 meters long. Privas is blessed with many beautiful small squares where one can dine or have a coffee, glass of wine or a beer. The town was a center for the Protestant Huguenots and was captured by Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu after a bloody siege in 1629. The Ardeche is a tourist center par excellence and a world destination for people interested in cycle sports and walks and hiking. It has many rivers which run down to the mighty Rhone river which is about 20 km away.
