Acerca de nuestra casa

Le Cheval Blanc is a rambling 19th Century farmhouse in the heart of the Dordogne countryside, south west France. It is situated in the tiny secluded hamlet of Joubertias just 5 minutes drive from the charming market town of Riberac where you will find supermarkets, shops, restaurants and banks.

Although le Cheval Blanc is large, we still find it really cozy, even when it is just the two of us.

It is a great place for get-together with friends and family gatherings. That's when the oak beamed bar really comes into it's own! It's a great house for a party.

The front garden has a lime tree that is lush and leafy in the summer and makes the perfect place for outdoor dining, whether cooked in our well equipped kitchen or on one of our BBQ s - we have gas and charcoal.

Our home changes how it looks depending on the seasons: you can see the limestone it is built from clearly in the winter and early spring, but as the seasons change, so does the house. It looks naked in winter and early spring, but in summer it is green and covered in dessert grapes from the vine. In late summer and into autumn it is all deep reds and russets. We'll dig out some photos and post some more to show you what we mean.

April through October is the best time to visit as is can be surprisingly cold in the remaining months. We often go to the UK to our London flat (which is also available to swap) during these times, but we can swap our London home year round.

  1. My name is Jill and I am an event organizer. My husband Bill is a home renovator and builder. We are in our early 50s.

We love to travel and especially love snorkeling. We also like to visit Africa (Bill was born in Zimbabwe), but there is so much of the world we haven't seen yet, we are open to offers.

We prefer to do a none simultaneous exchange.

There are so many things to see and do around here that it is hard to know where to start...

If you are a wine lover, there are all the vineyards of Bergerac and Bordeaux, from family-run to the top exporters of the the world, all within about an hour or so drive.

In the summer you can kayak the Dordogne's many rivers, or mountain bike some of the 650kms of track that are literally on the doorstep.

There are ancient caves and numerous churches, cathedrals and abbeys. There are chateaux by the score and gardens to die for.

For the gourmets there are a plethora of restaurants, from those with a coveted Michelin star to true family run eateries where you eat what is on the set menu - with an all inclusive price, including wine!

There are museums and a Roman amphitheater and other Roman remains in the capital of the Dordogne, Perigueux, just half an hour drive away and the breathtaking Brantome, Venice of the Perigord just twenty minutes from home.

Our nearest town, Riberac has the biggest market in the area on a Friday morning.

The region is famous for foie gras, truffles and walnuts.

I didn't know where to start, now I don't know where to stop! I think I'll leave the rest to Google....
