Acerca de nuestra casa

Every detail of the house has been restored by ourselves over a period of 20 years. The house is stylish but also extremely comfortable. We love to read and to watch old movies so we have extensive libraries of both. There are 5 living rooms so even a large party can find quiet individual places. Tranquil is the best word to describe it. There is little traffic and the area also boasts lowest pollution levels in Europe. This is principally a place to relax, walk, read and would not suit anyone looking for high culture. But the skies at night are famously the best in Europe.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. I am a writer journalist and my husband Ian is an art dealer. We have two daughters in their twenties both studying languages - so we are keen to visit hispanic cultures. We try to take one major holiday together during a year and this exchange would take that place.

This is a farming area and rural. The locals are friendly but discreet. Every town has its own local market. Architecturally it is an interesting area - the English and French fought over it 800 years ago and there are many ruined forts and villes fortifiees. Much of the medieval history is preserved in local museums. The Cistercian monastery near us is beautiful and recently restored. The countryside is undulating and lush. Fed by the springs of the Pyrenees it is one of France's few southern departments not to have water bans in summer. The winters are cold and the summers hot. Visitors love the area for its calm. It remains one of the least populated regions in France and you have to make your own nightlife except during the bullfighting season - we are near one of the major French bull fighting arenas. There is also a strong musical Latin American influence with an annual summer salsa festival. The Marciac jazz festival is also close.
