Acerca de nuestra casa

Our home is a mix of American and typical Mexican rustic furniture. It has a warm and cozy atmosphere and ceiling fans in every room. There is a small but powerful docking station for an iPod and a laptop available for use.

Michael likes to cook so we have nice cookware and knives, plus a coffee maker, smoothie blender, food processor, microwave and small oven.

There is a washer and dryer located on the first floor. We have a private patio, a charcoal grill and a clothes line to hang your wet beach towels. We have beach chairs, umbrellas, plenty of beach towels and some snorkel gear that would be available to you.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a full bath with a shower (the blue room). The guest room is a king sized bed, also. The second bath has a toilet, sink and shower. We use the third bedroom as an office. We will make a laptop available to you and we have high speed internet and cable television with several channels, some in English and the majority in Spanish.

Each bedroom has mini-split A/C units and ceiling fans. There is an alarm system that is very simple to operate. There are two bicycles available for your use. The house is secure and comfortable, with a locked gate and high walls. There is a local cell phone for our guests to use that will have some minutes for local calls.

We have a maid that comes once a week.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are: Michael, 60, and Jennifer, 40, and we are both photographers. We shoot destination weddings in the Riviera Maya as well as shoot travel stock for National Geographic. We moved to Cozumel four years ago and are loving it, but we also enjoy getting to see the rest of the world. We moved to Mexico for the wonderful Latin culture, to learn Spanish, but most importantly to live on an island in the Caribbean Sea!

We are originally from Colorado and have an apartment in Creede, Colorado, U.S. It is an historic mining town where the new Johnny Depp movie, "The Lone Ranger" was just filmed. Also, we have a small one room cabin on the Continental Divide at the headwaters of the Rio Grande.

Jennifer has lived in London and Frankfurt, where she finished secondary school. Michael has lived in Paris and New York. For work and play they have visited nearly 50 countries. Michael photographed several books for National Geographic, one of them on African cultures. He spent two years working in eleven countries in Africa. Jennifer used to own a day spa and was a licensed massage therapist before she turned to a photography career. Her studies in Native American traditions, holistic wellness and spiritual practices led to a solo, close encounter with a mountain lion in Montana.

We both love diving, snorkeling, kayaking, eating good food and drinking good wine.

We are looking for exchanges for 2016.

We live on the north side of Cozumel. We are a two minute walk from the beach and 10 minutes from town! Cozumel has a Mercado where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as freshly caught fish, or eat at one of the many loncherias (Mexican or Malaysian!). We love to go there for breakfast! There are two grocery stores, a large video rental store and restaurants nearby in the center of town. The main zocolo/plaza where you will find lots of shopping, restaurants and the waterfront is easy to get to. There are free concerts in the plaza on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Living on the north side of town we are lucky because our neighborhood is very quiet at night which isn't always the case in Mexico.

Cozumel is an island, which is located 20 km from the Yucatan Peninsula along the MesoAmerican Reef, where the warm Caribbean water temperature (usually 27 - 30C) and incredibly visibility (20 - 35 meters) have been attracting divers since Jacques Cousteau promoted the reefs in the 60s. There are numerous beach clubs on the west side of the island along one of the largest coral reefs in the world. Good snorkeling spots are only about a 5 to 20-minute drive from our house. We have many friends who run dive operations or snorkel tours on the island and we are happy to assist you to get in contact with them.

You can swim with the dolphins and manatees at Dolphin Discovery or with stingrays at Sting Ray City. Beautiful beaches line most of the east side of the island and offer unspoiled nature, since there is no electricity and only one hotel and just a couple of beach bars along a 10 km stretch of beach.

Cozumel is considered one of the safest spots in one of the safest states in Mexico. Of course, there are many excursions available on the mainland, which takes 40-minutes on the passenger ferry or 80-minutes on the car ferry. The well-know sites within a day's drive are Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Akumal lagoon, and the Mayan ruins of Cobá, Ek Balam and Chichen Itza.

At the moment, there are international flights from several U.S. and Canadian cities. Flights arrive from around the world at the Cancun airport on the mainland. You would transfer to the island by a small commuter airline, MayaAir, or by taking a car/bus to Playa del Carmen and then a ferry to the island.

A good site for local information is This is Cozumel http://thisiscozumel.com to see all that Cozumel offers.
