Acerca de nuestra casa

The Bolshoi is just half an hour from my place, same as the Red Square and the Kremlin, the University, the Luzhniki stadium and the Novodevishy convent are even closer.
It's a decent home of 'Une Vieille Russe', you won't find many surviving these days - flats or owners.
I follow the rule ‘don’t fix it, if it ain’t broke’ and keep the old Soviet-time electric sockets, switches and even the fridge – they all were meant to serve a lifetime, and that’s what they do with good care. For this reason I prefer to paint my wooden window frames every year instead of getting those popular plastic ones to give you a greenhouse effect in your own home!
For fresh air I have a lot of pot flowers – they fill you with oxygen. And I like their cheerful green colour!
As modern things go, I have the best Wi-Fi connection I could get with money – I am a translator, and I often have to work at home on weekends. Some 150 cable TV channels go as a bonus, of which you may need the French, German or English language news channels (my mother was a fan of Laurent Delahousse of France 2)– unless you decide to learn Russian!
Besides, I have a good collection of illustrated guidebooks, and I often use them myself – Moscow always has in store something you haven’t seen yet.
The double-bed bedroom is now completely vacant, and I can either do non-simultaneous exchanges or rent it out together with the food you can find in the fridge and the dictionaries in the book-case; I guess it may be interesting for someone learning Russian as students can seldom afford Moscow hotels.
Hope to upload more photos over the weekend.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. I am a Russian/English/Swedish interpreter and former travel guide, currently writing a lot on TripAdvisor. Please feel free to ask for advice on sightseeing or/and theatre tickets; I have maps and guidebooks in English, French and Swedish and I know all opera/ballet companies in the city.

  2. My winter garden plants are living beings and are to be treated like ones.

  3. We in Russia are famously hospitable and generous people, looking after our guests is a national sport.
You folks coming from the ‘civilized world’ are just expected to uphold that high-flown definition. When any seemingly unimportant item that had been with me for ages gets broken, part of me gets broken with it, and I am not sure I can bear it lightly.

The district is one of the most sought after in Moscow – that’s what realtors say: close to the sights and close to nature.
The Troparevo park is at my doorstep, seen from the balcony.
The other balcony opens in the direction of the Moscow University. This is generally an academic neighbourhood, three higher schools in the vicinity, plus the International relations institute and the Medical academy - provides a safe atmosphere of intellectual existance and cultural diversity.
The Gorky park and a rare open-air swimming pool – 15 minutes by metro.
The metro tellers – the station is very close, too – are now required to speak English.
Four banks on your way to the metro – though you needn’t really change money, most busineses take plastic cards. And I will supply you with two Troyka transportation cards, they are handy.
Three supermarkets at the door, two more within 5 minutes’ walk, one 7d/24 h, plus a farmers’ outlet; cards accepted everywhere.
Useful services – all in the apartment block opposite mine:
Shoe repair, clothes mending, watch repair, photo studio, general printer/scanner/text processing, dry cleaner and laundry. So cheap with the new euro rate, that you can bring things to mend with you! Open basically 10 – 20, weekend 10 – 18 (to be checked)
Beauty parlour 9 - 21
Pharmacy and ophtalmologist’s shop 9 – 22, another 7d/24h at the metro station
A few pharmacies, beauty parlours and cafés further along the street.

Thrifty Muscovites prefer their own meals - with 5 supermarkets nearby it's easy; where does one get any money for travelling otherwise?
Por la noche
Bars and cinemas in 'Avenue' mall
Lot's of them in four shopping malls at the metro station
Supermarkets - 5 of them within 5 minures' walk, accept Visa and Mastercard
Cultura e historia
Archangel Michael church, built 1690s; Moscow Philarmonics - 3 bus stops
De paseo
Troparevo forest & park – seen out of the window – if you have time :))
Un poco de ejercicio
'Chaika' - open-air pool near Kremlin
Golden Ring, Kolomna and even St.Petersburg
