Acerca de nuestra casa

Our house is a spacious Edwardian home built in 1913. It overlooks St Andrews Park, with a view of virtually nothing but trees and sky.
There is a large living room at the front (with cable TV and Wii), and an open plan dining room/family room at the back. Upstairs are the main bedroom (king-size bed), second bedroom (single hi-rise bed with floor space for a fold-out bed), large bathroom and cosy shower room. In the attic there are two bedrooms, one with two single beds and one with a single daybed which converts into a double. Please note that the stairs to the attic rooms are a bit steep, so not ideal for those with mobility problems.
The garden in not enormous, but it is nicely secluded with a lovely terrace for an evening drink and enough room - and a trampoline - for the kids to play. Of course the park across the road also offers them all the running around space they could want.
There is ample on-street parking.
The house is next to a church, which makes for quiet neighbours. The church clock does bong regularly but to be honest, you don't really notice it at all unless you're in the attic, and our kids sleep up there undisturbed.
Fans of the BBC drama Mistresses may like to know that the house was used as Trudi's house in series 1 & 2.
The house would not be suitable for younger children/toddlers, since we do have an awful lot of tempting knick-knacks dotted around.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are Meibh and Toby, a married couple with two girls (aged 10 and 8), one boy aged 5 and 2 dogs (who stay in very nice boarding kennels when we go away). Our kids are very well-behaved and respectful of their own home and other people's.
Toby is a translator from Dutch to English, and Meibh runs a very popular gift and interior accessories shop on Bristol's Gloucester Road.
We've been living in Bristol for 12 years, having lived in Bath and London prior to that. We're happy to draw on those experiences to provide tips on what to see (and what to avoid).
We haven't house-swapped before, but are very keen to exchange with like-minded people. We are also hoping to combine a house swap with a road trip in our beloved VW camper.

St Andrews and the adjoining area of Bishopston are probably Bristol's most family-friendly district. St Andrews Park, across the road from the house, has a children's playground and a paddling pool which is open in the summer, as well as 12 acres of rolling grass and trees.
We are about 5 minutes walk from Gloucester Road, a proper high street with a host of independent shops, including some great butchers, a fishmonger, bakers, as well as three supermarkets. You can buy everything you need within walking distance. There are also a variety of restaurants and some good pubs nearby.
To venture further afield, there are regular buses into the city centre, and we're 5 minutes walk from Montpelier railway station which takes you to the main terminus at Bristol Temple Meads for trains to Bath, London and everywhere else.
For drivers, we're a few minutes drive from the M32 motorway.
As well as being a lovely city in its own right with fine museums and a very thriving arts scene, Bristol is a great base for exploring. It's 45 minutes to Bath, about an hour to the Cotswolds, 2 hours to London, and about 2 hours to a host of beaches in Devon and Dorset. South Wales is an easy drive, with more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world, apparently.
