Acerca de nuestra casa

We offer a comfortable 3 storey, 3 bedroom home in a popular neighbourhood just 20 minutes walk from the seafront and city centre. On the top floor is a master bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space, and as we're up on a hill, the single bedroom has sea views in the distance. The ground floor comprises an entrance hall and large living room with TV, piano, comfy sofa and chairs. The bathroom is airy and light on the half landing down to the lower ground floor. Most of this lower floor has wooden floors and includes another double bedroom, an extra toilet plus a utility room which we use as an office space but it can accommodate another bed if necessary. The kitchen is on this floor too and opens onto the conservatory where we have our meals overlooking the small garden. The house was built in 1901 and we renovated it, top to bottom, about 10 years ago. It's centrally heated, south facing so catches the sun and the light and is surprisingly quiet given its so close to the city.

  1. We are a working couple in our early 50s. Kim works in the social care and health field juggling two roles with a small charity and the university and Peter is a self employed builder. Peter's new love is 'life drawing' and he can frequently be found at the local art club with charcoal, oils and pastels in hand. Kim loves nothing more than a good Saturday walk prior to reading all the weekend newspapers and taking an afternoon nap before catching the latest film. She travels a bit with work so is happy to be at home with a few books and the occasional visit to the gym. We're really lucky to have lots of flexibility with our working lives and so are looking to have 2-3 months abroad each year, somewhere between early December and mid March. Our two daughters live away and have their own lives, however they are likely to want to join us for a holiday for couple of weeks in the sun. Kim is Australian and has family we can stay with in Brisbane. We ideally want to visit Western Australia or New South Wales, although being near any beach interests us. We are open to suggestions, as while we can be away for up to 3 months, we don't have to be away for that long.

We live in a neighbourhood called Fiveways. Served by a good bus service, rail links and a great cluster of village shops at the end of our street. Would you believe we have a butcher and baker, but no candle stick maker! You have a choice of three nearby parks and a range of pubs with open fires and good food. Brighton is a brilliant city for visitors, with just 300,000 residents, its easy to get around and all very manageable. Our younger friends tell us it has a great night life and club scene, although we're most interested in its cinemas and fab choice of restaurants. You're never more than 50 yards from a café and there's plenty of welcoming and independent pubs. It has a mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture, with the area around the Lanes being the oldest part of the city. The North Laines is very arty with a lot of alternative and unusual quirky shops. We have a Pier, the Royal Pavilion, a Marina, two universities and a lovely modern public library. Plus we have the Dome Concert Hall and the historic Theatre Royal which attracts international performers and pre West End productions. Our local MP describes the city as “Dazzling: because there is an energy to be absorbed from simply being among the population, which represents the best of tolerant Britain...the town is as comfortable for a builder as it is for a drag queen". If you want to escape from the urban buzz, you can join the South Downs Way, which is a three mile drive from our home and offers a 120 mile stretch of protected natural beauty for walking and mountain biking. There's easy access to other parts of the country, including gorgeous country towns and villages, coastal walks and historical sites. Airports and ferries across to France are close at hand. If all this is not enough for you, the fast train service to London takes just 51 minutes.
