Acerca de nuestra casa

Ours is a large modern home, built in the style of Edward Lutyens as a Wealden Country Hall. It is exceptionally comfortable and well appointed and has all amenities on three floors with a three bay detached garage. We love to cook so the kitchen is very well equipped, with granite working surfaces, two ovens, microwave, fridges, freezer, table and six chairs and double french doors leading out into the garden. The dining room seats 12, and the sitting room has a large open fireplace, sofas, chairs and lovely antique as well as modern furniture. Our large family room has leather sofas, occasional tables and SKY TV and a piano. The entrance hall has antique tables, chests and lamps and stairs leading upstairs. Our bedroom has a kingsized brass bed and ensuite shower with toilet, double washbasin (new 2019 summer). The main guest-room has a wrought iron double bed and ensuite bathroom with shower over the bath. There are two other spacious double bedrooms on this floor, as well as a separate family shower room. The third floor has networked computers, and is a work area/ library with a double futon. Fitted carpets throughout.

Ours is a calm and colourful home, with pictures and a mixture of antique and contemporary ornaments. The windows are mullioned, and there is a terrace along the back of the house covered with wisteria and ornamental hops, growing over an oak pergola under which there are hanging baskets and flower-pots .

We have a large garden with flowerbeds either side of the lawn which stretches down to open countryside which is designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Deer often graze the pasture next to the garden, it is a very peaceful and private place.

  2. We are very conscious of being in someone else's home, which we see as a privilege to be respected. It is being in a home and not a hotel which we see as one of the joys of these holidays; enjoying someone else's environment, locality and culture is fascinating. We have exchanged before and will look after your home very assiduously. We are hoping for a holiday which is full of sun and relaxation, which includes lots of reading, visiting places of cultural interest, a little swimming, interspersed with visits to good restaurants for the area's culinary specialities. We are lucky to have our own holiday home in South West France (in the Dordogne) where we go every other year to enjoy the particular French ambiance and wonderful cuisine, so these exchanges offer us variety and enable us to visit more of the world. Our English home is in a exclusive close with 4 other large houses, our neighbours are friendly and warm. Burwash Common has a new cricket pavilion, where over a pint of local ale or a glass of wine, traditional English cricket can be enjoyed.

Our home sits within the beautiful East Sussex countryside well away from busy roads;it is a gloriously quiet spot. The provincial town of Heathfield is 8 minutes away(in the car)and the typical English village of Burwash is just 4 mins away in the other direction. It has a village shop, Post Office, a butcher, three pubs and a church. We are only 1 hr 10mins by train to London, with all its cultural riches. Tunbridge Wells with its historic Pantiles and excellent shopping and restaurants is just half an hour away by car. It is an eighteen century spa town and very quaint in parts. Hastings, on the coast, is also just half an hour away with its fisherman's area, aquarium and lanes of antique shops. The seaside towns of Rye and Eastbourne are also within easy reach. The world famous National Trust has many local properties: castles and ancient gardens such as Bateman's (Rudyard Kiplings' house- 5 minutes away), Scotney Castle, Sisssinghurst (Vita Sackville West's home), Leeds Castle and Bodiam Castle - all simply stunning and close by. There is horse riding, tennis, sailing, and plenty of mapped walks. Additionally there are opportunities for visiting stately homes and enjoying good food and English wine /ale around and about. Windsor Castle, Oxford, Cambridge and the Cotswolds are all possible driving destinations for a short break. We are just over an hour from the Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone, so a trip to France or Belgium, for the day or a weekend is a real option. The Channel Tunnel allows you to take your car through and/or the Ferry takes approximately an hour.
