Acerca de nuestra casa

A fine example of a stone-built Edwardian villa with five bedrooms (two en-suite) over four floors. The dining room/conservatory offers spectacular views over the Peak District National Park including Solomon's Temple and Corbar Cross. The first picture here is the view from our bedroom window on a winter's morning. The house is the product of a year-long renovation project so everything in it is new: bathrooms, kitchen (with American-style fridge), conservatory, central heating etc. There are three baths, two with added showers. We have a multi-fuel stove in the sitting room. It is an incredibly warm house. There are numerous guitars, bass guitars, ukuleles and violins and a piano, 'cello, double bass and djembe all available to use. Our house is very child-friendly and, particularly, teenager friendly: because we have teenagers and pets our house is designed to be robust! Although we don't have cable, our kids have magnificent collections of books, DVDs and videos to entertain any children of any age. Our house sleeps 9/10 (but you could also use the sofabed and sitting room for another two: there are 4 loos so you would have enough bathrooms!).

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are a family of seven but, as our children range from 15 to 22, unlikely to all be traveling at the same time. Our party could vary from 2 to 8! My husband is a violin maker and I am a teacher-turned-writer. We have three cats but they could be fed by neighbours if you are travelling with the house as a base. We also have two dogs who would not be in the house for an exchange but we thought we'd better say in case you have allergies!

It is a fifteen minute walk or £3.50 taxi ride (there are buses but only about four a day) into town and a fifteen minute walk to the station where Manchester is a 55 minute train ride away. We are 45 minutes from Manchester airport and can either leave one of our cars there or arrange a taxi transfer for you. There is a bus direct to the airport from Buxton. East Midlands airport is about 60 minutes away by car. Liverpool and Birmingham airports are also easily accessed by train (1 1/2 hours). Buxton is the highest market town in England. It is a lovely, leafy, place with a bustling folk music scene and a beautiful theatre. Chatsworth is a 45 minute drive from the town. The town itself is entirely surrounded by the Peak District with caves, spectacular bird watching and fantastic walks. The Goyt Valley is one of the most beautiful spots in England and only a five minute drive away: walks vary from gentle reservoir circular paths to the full-on hike of Kinder Scout. Bakewell is a 20 minute drive or easily accessible by bus. Have a look at http://www.peakdistrict-nationalpark.info/index.html or http://www.visitbuxton.co.uk for ideas of what to do here: there are plenty!
