Acerca de nuestra casa

Our apartment is the top half of a traditional 1850's townhouse. To enter the apartment you make your way up an elegant staircase from the communal hallway to the first floor and enter first into the sitting room which is used by us as a TV room. It has a bay window, 2 reclining leather chairs and reclining 2 seater settee. There is also a gas living flame stove to add to the cosy feel of the room. From here you can access the fully equipped kitchen which also has a table and chairs for breakfast.
Go past the internal staircase and the door leading to the small cloakroom with toilet and you reach the stunning L shaped drawing room/dining room with the original carved marble fireplace, enormous gilt wall mirrors and hand painted pillars. The drawing room has 2 large and comfortable 3 seater couches as well as a number of other chairs and antique furniture. In the bay window overlooking residents' gardens there is a chaise-langue, perfect for reading a book or watching the world pass by in the street below. The dining room has an extendable table with seating for 8.

Upstairs we have available 2 large double bedrooms, both with king size beds. The larger bedroom has an en-suite shower with sink and toilet. The second bedroom is close to a bathroom with shower, bath etc. These bedrooms are at the back of the house looking out over the rooftops towards the Clyde and the Finnieston crane.

Despite its origins in the 1850s the apartment offers 21st century comfort with central heating and gas living flame fires in the 2 reception rooms. There is wifi throughout as well as a Sky TV package. There is an additional TV in the larger bedroom suitable for DVDs and Firesticks.

Outside at the rear is a small but pretty garden and secure parking for 4 cars. 2 of the parking spaces belong to our apartment and our cars will be left unless otherwise requested. There is also Dave's shed with 2 bicycles and summer visitors can enjoy the sun loungers and BBQ if they can find them amongst the golf clubs and walking boots..

We have a large communal garden at the front of the building which can be accessed by guests.

As the house contains 2 apartments we would ask that any potential house exchangers bear in mind that the entrance hall and rear garden are both communal areas and to respect our neighbours' privacy.

  1. Dave and I are enjoying retirement to the full! Dave enjoys hill walking, golf and some cycling while I prefer all that Glasgow has to offer such as film, music and book festivals as well as numerous wonderful theatre venues, art galleries and museums. We both enjoy eating out and trying new restaurants for brunch or dinner.
We have two children, both of whom are married with one settled in England while the other is in Wellington New Zealand.
We've never attempted a house swap before but it would be perfect to find somewhere to swap during our month long visit to Wellington in December, January or February. We also like the idea of swapping our home for somewhere in between the UK and NZ that the whole family can meet up at. Fingers crossed. Obviously, guests wouldn't need to stay a whole month in our house but it would be possible.
Apart from those two destinations we're open to offers for long weekends within reasonable travelling distance, in fact we're open to offers for exchanges anywhere for anytime!

The house is perfectly positioned in a beautiful part of the West End looking onto residents' gardens and with Kelvingrove Park 100 yards away. The town centre is an easy 20 minute walk along Sauchiehall Street, itself lined with shops, bars and restaurants. The Kings theatre is a 10 minute walk and Theatre Royal, SECC , Science Centre and Hydro around 20 to 25 minutes. A 10 minute stroll will take you to a part of Argyle street bustling with high quality restaurants and bars but you might find it difficult to pass the best Indian restaurant in the UK to reach them!

Within easy walking distance we also have museums and art galleries with the West End proper a 20 minute walk through the park or carry on beside the river Kelvin to the Botanic Gardens. Glasgow is a vibrant city with lots going on whether your taste is for music, theatre, comedy or clubbing. Check out www.whatsonglasgow.co.uk

The National Trust for Scotland and Scottish Heritage both have good websites for those interested in visiting beautiful old houses, castles and gardens locally and further afield.

Take the car, bus or train and you'll reach the banks of Loch Lomond within half an hour or visit Edinburgh and explore the differences between these 2 rival cities. The options are limitless!

Too numerous to mention and catering for different tastes and budgets
Por la noche
There's lots of live music venues that will appeal to a wide range of musical taste and to different ages. Glasgow is also famous for its lively clubs and pubs, often based in beautiful old buildings.
Byres road is a coffee or tea drinker's dream.
The City Centre (walking distance) is one of the best in the UK. But head to the Byres road area and Hyndland for small independent shops and some vintage shopping too.
Cultura e historia
Very close to the art galleries and museums at Kelvingrove and Glasgow University. But a short trip across Glasgow to the East End will take you to the People's Palace, Cathedral and the oldest house in Glasgow.
De paseo
Walk by the river Kelvin and look out for Kingfishers. From the house you can walk through the park and by the river Kelvin to the Botanic Gardens and back via Byres Road and the University of Glasgow. The Necropolis is also a must see. Themed walks are available to cover all of Glasgow. You will also be able to access some of the loveliest walks in Scotland a short distance from Glasgow.
Un poco de ejercicio
The park is on our doorstep as are a variety of gyms or cycle route 77. We have 2 bicycles in the shed,
Inveraray; Pitlochry; Loch Lomond; The Trossachs or Edinburgh. One of the islands such as Little Cumbrie, Arran or Bute would be doable in a day in the summer.
