Acerca de nuestra casa

The cottage is at the top of a small lane - typical in Ireland - as it was part of a small bygone farming community or 'clachan' - set in lovely rural countryside yet you can be in the city within 25-30 mins. In this location we believe you can have the advantages of both country & city.

The original cottage dates back over 100 years old but we have renovated and added extensions in recent years to offer spacious living areas and gardens. Its a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a taste of rural country living here in Ireland.

The cottage layout allows 2 comfortable living areas as well as a large cosy farmhouse kitchen which often is the hub of the house. There is central heating via the Rayburn range (modern timer operation) and 2 bathrooms - each with shower.

There are TVs in the living areas, internet and phone.

There are lawn and shrub gardens .. and of course fields surrounding the cottage - so you will notice the colours and sounds of local wildlife - part of the great experience!

This area is very safe for kids and we have great neighbours (& friends) on the lane.

Also as its rural setting - you will need a car here but local attractions are not far away. We can help with a car if required.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are Mike and Bronwen, married with a 17 year old son Jake. We are in our fifties and decided to retire early from our successful professional jobs (mostly in England) to return to Ireland, to enjoy other things in life that we never got time to do. We like travelling, cooking/eating out, music, walking trips and enjoy spending time with friends but also meeting other open minded people from all walks of life.

We want to do more travelling - and experience places as a resident or local - not as a tourist! We are interested in house exchange for short vacations (at the moment). As our son has still to complete his final years at high school we are currently restricted to school vacation breaks for a simultaneous swap but we can be more flexible on other dates to accept a hospitality exchange in return.

One big advantage with Northern Ireland is that it is relatively easy to explore by car.

We live about 10mins to the coast of Strangford Lough in a lovely part of County Down with its creeks, inlets and islands - popular with sailing clubs.

We are also about 35-40 mins from the Mourne Mountains - great for scenery , hill walking and rock climbing. There are both easy and challenging walks - so get your boots on!

The local Delamont park (10 mins away) with its paths has a great vantage point to sample the coast and mountain scenery and has a safe kids playpark with picnic areas.

Pretty coastal towns of Bangor, Holywood, Strangford and Newcastle are all within approx 30 mins by car. There are lots of well known attractions such as the Titanic exhibition and shipyard, Fermanagh lakes and the Ulster folk museum to name a few. There are also championship golf courses within easy reach or a local one 10 mins away.

Of course we have good local restaurants and pubs nearby and if you want to take in shopping, city sightseeing, live music, markets, more fine restaurants or take in a show then Belfast is only about 25 mins away by car.

Re local food shopping - we have a good local shop nearby - a few minutes by car to the village.

For longer trips - eg Dublin is about 2 hours by car or you can get the train from Belfast central station. Other day drips can take you up to the Antrim coast and glens. You could visit and famous attractions such as the Giants Causeway, try crossing the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and tipple the famous whiskies from the Bushmills distillery. We are a good base to explore the wild beaches and mountains of Donegal or visit the walled city of Derry.

The area in which we live is very safe and we have great neighbours - just enjoy the hospitality and the craic!
