Acerca de nuestra casa

Our home is located in the small town of Dunblane, central Scotland. It has a population of 12,000 and is surrounded by lovely countryside, with rural Perthshire minutes to the north, the Trossachs (hills and lochs) are 30 minutes drive away, and Loch Lomond an hour to the west. It is 6 miles from Stirling with its historic Castle and Battle of Bannockburn site and Visitors' Centre and 5 miles from the National Wallace Monument, celebrating the life of Scotland's national hero, William Wallace.

Our home is situated in a quiet, peaceful residential area of Dunblane. It sleeps 7/8 comfortably in four bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and en-suite shower room/dressing room, Bedroom 2 has a double bed (there is an electric piano and a couple of guitars in Bedroom 2 which guests are welcome to make use of), Bedroom 3 has a double bed (drum kit available for use!) and Bedroom 4 has a 'hi-sleeper' single bed with a sofa below which converts into a double futon bed (sleeping up to 3 in total, if required).

On the ground floor there is a comfortable sitting room with wood burning stove (wood provided in garage, if required), a WC, well-stocked kitchen/dining room, family room with TV/Wii/X-box One/DVDs/Blu-rays/board games. There is a laundry room with a washing machine, and a dryer is located in the garage outside. The first floor comprises four bedrooms (one with ensuite shower room), a family bathroom with shower and an study/office.

We have a spacious rear garden which is enclosed for privacy. There is a large trampoline, climbing frame and soccer goal. To the front of the house there is a garden area and a driveway with space to accommodate three cars. The garage houses a dryer, a small pool table, tennis rackets and balls (tennis courts at local Tennis Club 10 minutes walk away), soccer balls and 5 bikes for use by guests. There is a small play park for younger children 5 minutes walk away through the local Primary School playground.

Our home is ideally suited to families and is comfortable and relaxed. We are a very responsible family and would have great respect for your home.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are a family of five, comprising Grant and Joanne (parents - in our mid-40s) and three sons, aged 17, 15 and 10 years. Grant is a Project Manager in the Energy sector and Joanne is an Early Years Practitioner. As a family we enjoy hillwalking, cycling, camping, music, arts, film, food and playing board games. Our sons also enjoy sports, particularly rugby and soccer, socialising with their friends and playing computer games.

We have never visited the US before, but the Massachusetts area has always appealed to us for its history and beauty, and for the opportunity to visit Stockbridge to see some of the work of the artist Norman Rockwell, whom I (Joanne) have long-admired.

Our eldest son is starting University in Massachusetts in August, so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to combine our family holiday with being around to see him start University.

Dunblane is an attractive and affluent town sitting on the River Allan in central Scotland. It is nationally recognized as having one of the top three High Schools in Scotland. It has a 13th century Cathedral, a small museum, the oldest private library collection in Scotland and a compact high street with a number of local shops such as a Post Office, butchers, delicatessen, newsagent, pharmacy, hairdressers, opticians, banks, cafes, toy shop, electrical store, as well as two small supermarkets. There are a number of cafes on or around the high street as well as a number of restaurants within easy reach such as the Sherriffmuir Inn, The Riverside, Old Churches House, Doubletree by Hilton Hotel and Cromlix House Hotel. World-renowned Gleneagles Hotel is a 20 minute drive away, and is also accessible by train.

Dunblane is in an ideal position in central Scotland to easily visit many other areas of Scotland. The town offers easy access to the national motorway network (Edinburgh is 50 mins by car), Glasgow (50 mins by car), St. Andrew's (1 hour by car). Dunblane is also served by a rail station offering direct trains to Stirling (7 mins), Edinburgh (50 mins), Glasgow (50 mins), Perth (40 mins), Dundee (60 mins), Aberdeen (2 hrs) and Inverness (2hrs 45 mins), as well as connections for England - York is 4 hours away by train and London is a 5 hour 45 minute rail journey away. There are two international airports at Edinburgh (40 mins) and Glasgow (1 hr), within easy driving distance and offering numerous cheap flights within the UK and to Europe.

Historical Edinburgh, beautiful and interesting at any time of the year, is particularly vibrant throughout August with its fantastic International Cultural Festival (http://www.eif.co.uk/) and Fringe (https://www.edfringe.com/) where theatre, music, comedy, arts and literature groups from all over the world converge for a months of cultural performances and events. It is easily accessible from our home, being only 50 minutes away by direct train or by car.

More locally, as well as its castle, Stirling has a large shopping mall, housing well-known chain stores and individual shops. There is also ten-pin bowling, a multiplex cinema and a Sports Centre with gym, swimming pools and a climbing wall. Fifteen minutes drive away is Blairdrummond Safari Park which offers a pleasant day out with children. The local Hilton hotel, a few minutes walk away from our home, has a Leisure Club with a gym and a pool where temporary membership can be arranged, if required. The local arts venue, the Macrobert Arts Centre, based at the University of Stirling, hosts plays, films and cultural events, and is a 10 minute drive away. The impressive formal gardens at Drummond Castle are half an hour's drive away and the relatively easy family hill walks of Dumyat (15 minutes drive) and Ben A'an (40 minutes drive) are close by. More demanding hillwalking can be found at Glencoe (2 hours drive), in the Cairngorms (2 hours drive) or in the Crianlarich hills (1 hour away). Dunblane is also well-placed for access to numerous family cycling opportunities on the National Cycle Network, as well as many mountain biking opportunities. The local golf club is a ten minute walk away, and international-standard courses are nearby at Gleneagles (20 mins drive), St. Andrew's (1 hour drive), Turnberry (1 hr 40 mins drive) and Murifield (1hr 20 mins drive).

Scotland is a beautiful and historic country to visit (see - http://www.visitscotland.com/), offering vibrant and exciting cities, spectacular scenery and interesting heritage. Our home in Dunblane is the perfect place to base yourself to see the best of all that Scotland has to offer.
