Acerca de nuestra casa

Ours is a fully renovated 250 year old cob cottage situated in the National Park of the New Forest. It is set with half an acre of well tended, mature gardens within the ancient village of Landford. The original character of the cottage is maintained throughout with exposed beams, stone flooring and cobb walls evident throughout. The original cottage has been extended twice: 100 years ago to add an upstairs floor and replace the thatch with Welsh slate, and recently to add a garden room, a 2-car garage and two patios. The cottage is cosy and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We have four chickens that provide us with fresh eggs, a vegetable garden, a wide variety of fruit trees, grape vines, and a herb garden. Though not entirely self sufficient, the wood burning stove (and wood pile), the solar panels and our own well (tho not used)make for a very good life indeed.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. My wife and I are newly (semi)retired and looking forwards to travel to new places and experiencing different cultures. We are both professionals; I am a professor of the University of Southampton located in the National Oceanography Centre, my wife recently retired as Director of Victim Services for the County of Hampshire. We are non-smokers and are highly active and enjoy biking, walking, running (when not injured), and gardening, which keep us fit. We have no pets at the moment, though four chickens (Hetty, Betty, Charlotte and Penny) are good substitutes that provide us with free range eggs that are highly prized by friends and neighbours.

Within walking distance are many ancient pathways, drovers lanes and foot paths that take you through the chalk uplands and forested lowlands: landscapes made famous by Constable. You can enter the National Park via our back gate which gives access to ancient lanes used by drovers to drive animals to market for over 500 years.
We are 10 miles south of Salisbury (made famous by its cathedral and chapter house containing an original Magna Carta), 15 miles from Stonehenge, 15 miles from Winchester and 20 miles from Lymington (and the ferry to the Isle of Wight). To the west is Dorset and the Jurassic Coast (a world Heritage Site), to the east is west Sussex (perhaps the loveliest counties of England), to the north is the open countryside of Salisbury Plains.
