A beautifully light and spacious one to two bedroom loft apartment on the second floor of a stylish warehouse-converted period building in a quiet street in vibrant central Clerkenwell at the southern end of the north London borough of Islington (maximum 10 minutes' walk to nearest tube stations Farringdon or Barbican; 2 minutes' walk to bus stops to all parts of London). In addition to being centrally located, the apartment is very quiet and relaxing. Totalling approximately 92 square metres, it comprises a large (approximately 7 x 7 sq. metres) south-facing main living room equipped with comfortable sofas, a dining table seating 6-8 people, a 40 inch TV, a DVD and stereo equipment; fully-fitted kitchen area (behind a glass wall) with all the appliances and equipment including a washing/drying machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave, etc; a double bedroom with new kingsize (160 x 200) bed and memory foam mattress; study area/second bedroom, containing a new sofa easily convertible into a comfortable full-sized double sofabed (140 x 200) for one or two further adults or one teenager over 12 years old; and a newly-refurbished state-of-the-art bathroom including WC, washbasin, bath and separate walk-in shower. Wifi internet access is available throughout. The apartment is best suited for one or two people using the kingsize bed in the main bedroom, and a further one person (adult or teenager) or a couple sharing the sofabed in the study/2nd room. (The sofabed area is not suitable for two children sharing.)

The small block of 12 apartments is well-secured via the communal entrance and via the individual entrance to the apartment itself. The communal areas are well maintained and there is a lift as well as stairs. There is a gym in the basement of the block (for which extra payment has to be paid direct to them for use). A newly-refurbished public swimming pool and spa is within 5 minutes’ walking distance.

I am a retired woman, having been a university administrative manager (at the University of London), now seeking to take advantage of my freedom and travel more, sometimes with my partner (he is a university academic and still working full-time, but he does not live in this apartment). I am especially interested in exchanging with French people, as I am keen to improve my French and knowledge of France (having a first degree in French). I am also interested in considering offers to exchange with anywhere in the world. My interests are travel, theatre, opera, classical and world music, art, hiking, political studies (in which I have a doctorate) and good food and wine. I have lived in this apartment since 2001 and have a good working knowledge of London, being able to recommend many interesting things for you to do and places to go for your entertainment while you are here. I have now happily exchanged about 20 times.

Easy access to the West End (10 minutes by bus) and Trafalgar Square; St. Paul’s Cathedral, Smithfield, the City and the River Thames (10 minutes on foot); the Tower of London and all other London tourist attractions; Hampstead Heath and other green spaces; Islington High Street (5 minutes by bus) and London food markets. Supermarkets and local stores within 2 minutes’ walking distance. Many world-class restaurants and lively bars and pubs are in this locality. Well-served by buses, underground, overground and main line train stations (en route to all London airports and 10 minutes by bus to Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International station), including only 10 minutes’ walk to the Farringdon station travel hub (through which the new Crossrail will be routed from 2018). Within 10 minutes’ walk of the Barbican theatre and concert halls and easy access by short bus rides to the South Bank, the West End with its shopping and entertainment, the Tate Modern and other cultural venues.
