Acerca de nuestra casa

Our Home:
Our house dates from the 1890s (Victorian era) and is situated in a quiet, tree-lined street near to Northcote Road, one of Battersea's most family-friendly neighbourhoods. Our road has no through-traffic so it's unusually quiet and private for a London town house, and at the end of our street is Wandsworth Common, one of London's many parks.

We are nevertheless very conveniently located for access to central London via bus (2 minute walk to nearest stop connecting to Chelsea / Sloane Square in 30 minutes) and train (10 minute walk to Wandsworth Common station, connecting to Victoria station in 15 minutes), whilst a late-night taxi home from London's West End takes approx. 20 minutes.

Our house has 5 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, a large kitchen/dining room and a private town-house garden with 'Easy Grass', set up for outdoor eating. It's arranged over 3 floors (220 square metres), and is decorated to a very high and comfortable standard.

The master bedroom has its own adjacent bathroom, with 2 further bathrooms (1 ensuite) for the other bedrooms. The bedrooms are currently arranged as 2 bedrooms with double beds, 1 bedroom with twin beds, 1 bedroom with single bed and ensuite bathroom and 1 bedroom with child's bed, but there is some flexibility to rearrange according to the specific needs of your family.

Our home is very child-friendly (eg stair gates throughout), and we have a huge supply of children's books, toys etc. It is also fully wheelchair-accessible, both in terms of street-level access and between floors to living areas / bedroom and bathroom; we're more than happy to supply further details upon request.

We have a live-in nanny / housekeeper, who may travel with us on our exchange, depending on the set-up with our exchange partner. Either way, we can make suitable arrangements for cleaning and other housework, which could be included as part of our exchange agreement.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. Our family:
We are a young family of 4: Vanessa (40), Dan (40), Guy (5) and Josh (2). Vanessa worked for many years in the PR industry, and is now re-training to become a secondary school languages teacher (French and Spanish). Dan works in the City as a corporate banker, and speaks fluent German. The children go to school / nursery locally, and at weekends we try to spend our time both locally and also in town, taking advantage of the many museums and activities that London has to offer.

Dan grew up in London, and is very well-placed to advise you before your arrival on theatres, art galleries and other places worth visiting during your time in England's fabulous capital city, as well to the many country houses and parks that could make suitable day-trips during your stay in London. We can also assist with bookings, if there are particular shows or events that you would like to priorities.

Our Hobbies have rather taken a back-seat with a young family, and when not spending time with the children and our wider family, we spend our time either having friends round for dinner or meeting up in bars, pubs and restaurants, both in the neighbourhood and in the Fulham / Chelsea area.

We are very excited about the new horizons this opened up by house swapping. Our children are very well-behaved, and are used to treating other people's houses with the greatest of respect. Our eldest son has special needs and is wheelchair-bound - an open plan exchange house would be ideal for him/us, but we are all used to being flexible. Our youngest son Josh loves his brother very much, and has never been given the chance to misbehave by his parents - this holiday will certainly be no exception !

Our Neighbourhood:
Wandsworth Common (London Borough of Battersea) is a largely residential district in South-West London with a strong community spirit and a welcome alternative to the hurly-burly of central London. Wandsworth Common itself, the park at the end of our road, is particularly child and dog-walker friendly, and the area is often referred to as London's "Nappy Valley". At weekends, there is a variety of football, rugby and keep-fit classes in the park, particulaly catering for the area's many school-age children, and the park has a number of children's playgrounds and duck-ponds.

Northcote Road is a 5-minute walk away, offering a wide selection of independently-owned shops, restaurants, pubs and bars, including specialist meat, fish and cheese shops, as well as a food market at weekends. There are additional restaurants along Bellevue Road, including the Michelin-star rated Chez Bruce (http://www.chezbruce.co.uk/), for a special occasion. Our favourite local pub is the Bolingbroke (http://www.thebolingbroke.com/home.php), a 5-minute walk away, whilst Gails and Brew make the best croissants and Eggs Benedict respectively for lazy weekend breakfasts !

Our street is incredibly friendly - we regularly have neighbours round for drinks or dinner, there are Summer street parties and every Winter there is a dinner event when all neighbours collectively host and are hosted for starters, main courses, deserts and post-dinner drinks throughout the street, each course in a different house. There is a group email list that connects every house in the street, so whether it's baby-sitting, a plumber or a carpet-cleaner, there is a plentiful supply of neighbourly advice. We would make a point of connecting you by email to our neighbours on both sides of our house, who would be more than happy to provide any on-the-ground assistance.
