Acerca de nuestra casa

Our house is an 1890's Victorian terrace in a conservation area in Greenwich near the River Thames. Two bedrooms and booklined study upstairs (bunk beds in the children's room,) large living/dining room with solid fuel stove, piano, dining table, sofa, TV, stereo etc. on ground floor with kitchen and bathroom out the back. Enclosed backyard with barbecue. This is a small house that was a wonderful base for a young trendy working couple (us...) partying their London life away, but 9 years after starting a family it's designer edges have been scuffed by our children's lives and turned it into a family cottage, bicycles stacked by the back door, toys everywhere. The front door opens onto the pavement and the neighbours are friendly. So this is a cosy house that will nurture a young family, or be a great base for a couple to relax in and from which to explore London.

  1. Neil is a senior producer with the BBC. Passionate about books and sailing, built my own boat 25 years ago and went sailing for 10 years before being persuaded to come ashore and raise kids. Anna is a counsellor and personal development coach. Our two children (9 and 5) go to school a few hundred yards away and enjoy all the myriad children's activities that Greenwich has to offer, including the huge playground in the park and scouring the river foreshore for treasure. Though Anna has now been in the UK for 20+ years she grew up in Sydney. We both love Greenwich and feel it has plenty to offer.

Greenwich offers an array of attractions, most within walking distance : the 02 - now THE major European concert venue - the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich Park and Royal Observatory, the Royal Naval College, the Cutty Sark (currently under repair), River Thames with riverside walks and cycleway, cafes, covered market and a host of other activities. Blackheath, a walk through the park, features gourmet food and retains its villagey air. We have one cinema within walking distance and two multiplexes a short bus journey. This is a World Heritage site, but also a busy part of London with many transport connections into the centre - Charing Cross, adjacent to Trafalgar Square and The National Gallery, is twenty minutes by overground railway, and the underground is a short busride away to whisk you to all the shops and landmarks that London is known for. There are connections also via the river ferries and the Docklands Light Railway. Our street is a close community, a mixture of elderly folk here for 50 years or more, and couples with young children. Canary Wharf, the financial centre of the UK, is just across the river so there is a sprinkling of itinerant international bankers too. If you want to get away from the built up areas, Kent and the Thames Estuary are just to the East. Whitstable, famous for supplying London with Oysters, is an hour in the car (provided if wanted,) as are many other seaside and rural attractions.
