Acerca de nuestra casa

We have an attractive and light-filled 1840 Victorian semi on 3 floors with front and back gardens. The ground floor kitchen and large dining area has doors opening directly on to the patio. On this floor too there is a utility room with washing machine and dryer, and a bedroom with double bed and adjacent toilet and shower room. The upper ground floor has a spacious and light double sitting room with an ornate Victorian plasterwork ceiling, sofas and antique furniture, and a bedroom with 2 very comfortable bunk beds and a sink, with an adjacent toilet. The topmost floor has the master bedroom with double bed, a bathroom with toilet, bathtub with shower. On this floor too are a small study and a larger study, the latter with a sofabed (a large single). The 40ft long back garden has lawn, silver birch tree, flower beds and flagstone areas, and the front has box hedging, a flowering cherry tree and flower beds.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are a newly retired couple, Christopher having retired from Cambridge University in 2012 and Julia from University College London a few years before that. We’ve spent much of our married lives in the foreign service living overseas mainly in China, Hong Kong, Paris, New York and Warsaw, and have owned our house since 1984. Christopher is still deeply involved in Chinese matters, art and music; Julia enjoys cooking, gardening, works voluntarily for the British Heart Foundation and is doing a pottery course. Our son and his family relocated to Portland, Oregon in 2013 and we exchanged houses with Portlanders in 2013, and with French families in France in 2014 and 2015.

We are on a no-through road on a very quiet and leafy garden square so at the front of the house we are not overlooked. There is plenty of parking space on the street, if required. Camden Town, with its shops and its famous market, is in easy walking distance. The house is very convenient for London University, the British Museum, the Oxford Street shopping area and all London’s myriad cultural attractions. Our road runs between two main roads both of which have numerous bus routes in and out of the centre (15 minutes to Oxford Circus, 25 mins to Trafalgar Square and theatreland) and the City, and towards London Zoo, Hampstead Heath and Camden Lock. It’s a 10mins walk to two Underground stations on the Northern Line (Camden Town and Kentish Town); an Overground station for trains to Kew Gardens, the City and Hampstead Heath (Camden Road); and a Thameslink train (from Kentish Town) which will get you to the Tate Modern in 10 mins, to Gatwick Airport in an hour and to Brighton in 85 mins.
