Acerca de nuestra casa

Low Well Cottage is a quaint 17th century cottage set in a third of an acre of gardens, on the edge of a charming mid-Suffolk village. It is one of a pair of old farming cottages, originally a Suffolk longhouse built around 1645. Uniquely, the cottage has two staircases leading to the bedrooms and retains original oak beams. The large inglenook fireplace is now fitted with a wood-burning stove. The cottage has three double bedrooms (the middle bedroom is accessed through one of the other bedrooms) and a fully-modernised kitchen and bathroom, with an additional cloakroom/toilet. The laundry is in one of the separate outhouses, with a washing machine, dryer, sink and drainer. The cottage stands on about a third of an acre, with large, sunny gardens to the rear. It is very quiet and peaceful and is right on the edge of the village with views of the surrounding fields. The large drive has space for three or four cars.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We are Sharon and John and we have three adult children. We are both professionals but are now semi-retired and are therefore in a position to be able to travel more frequently and at times of our choosing. Sharon is Australian, John is British, our children are dual-nationality and we did our first house swap in Sydney four years ago. Our two youngest children are currently living in Sydney and we have other family on the east coast, so we aim to be in Australia at least once a year for around six to eight weeks at a time. We are planning to be over again in 2019 for a few weeks, sometime between June and October. We also have family in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie and would love to be close to them for some of the time.

The cottage is situated on the edge of the 1000-year-old village of Wickham Skeith, just five miles from the historic market town of Eye, where you will find two supermarkets, butchers shops, a newsagent, antique shops and art galleries as well as a few restaurants. There are ancient woods nearby to explore and many other historical and interesting attractions in this beautiful part of England which is steeped in so much history. The Roman city of Norwich is about 40 minutes drive from Low Well, and the picturesque market town of Diss, with its charming High Street full of cafes and tea-rooms, its Friday market and famous auction rooms is just 15 minutes away http://www.visitnorfolk.co.uk/explore/Diss.aspx
Diss is also the starting point for the Boudicca Way, named after the legendary warrior Queen of the Iceni, whose tribes once inhabited the area http://www.boudiccaway.co.uk/. Framlingham Castle, built in the 12th Century and of great significance in English history, is only 40 minutes drive away. Stansted international airport is about an hour away.
The area is full of fantastic pubs, many of them hundreds of years old, such as the 12th Century Four Horseshoes Inn http://www.thefourhorseshoes.net/

The famous Norfolk Broads are nearby and the many charming coastal towns of East Anglia, such as Walberswick and Southwold are just 1 hour drive away. For bird-lovers, the Blakeney National Nature Reserve on the beautiful north Norfolk coast is about one and a half hours away, as is the lovely seaside town of Cromer, famous for its seafood, especially local crabs.

Low Well Cottage is the perfect base from which to explore Constable country, search for antiques at nearby Eye, Diss, Debenham or Harleston, or just to relax and take a walk in Thornham Woods, stopping for tea in the Forge Tearooms or looking around the Victorian walled garden
