Acerca de nuestra casa

Our house is semi-detached, built in 1903, with a private back garden and patio. The ground floor is four rooms deep. The living room (sofas and TV) faces the road. Our study (books and broadband internet) has French doors opening to the back and the garden. The dining room and kitchen are linked by an archway; the kitchen has doors which open to the patio.

Upstairs we have three large bedrooms, the main one with an en-suite bathroom/shower. There is a second bathroom with bath and shower.

Our garden is about 30 metres long, with lawn and shrub borders.

The gas central heating is efficient and easy to operate. On cold winter days we occasionally have a log fire in the front room.

The kitchen is large, light and airy, with washing machine, dishwasher, electric oven and separate gas hob and microwave. On sunny days we eat on the patio.
We have a wireless broadband network and cable TV with sports channels and BBC iplayer.

We have our 5 year old Ford Focus if we arranged a car swap.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. We're both about to hit 70, enjoying retirement and frequent travel, or we were until Rosie was hit by a stroke in 2013. Rosie is walking OK again now, but can only cope with climbing a few steps. We take a wheelchair out for shopping /exploring. That's why we could only consider a one-storey home, with OK access to a walk-in shower.

WE'RE NOT READY FOR 2015, BUT WOULD LIKE TO GET IN THE MOOD FOR 2016.

Mike was a teacher/teacher trainer at Southampton University. Now spending far too much time on the golf course for his own good. Loves languages, taught German and French. Enjoys fighting with Italian and Spanish when opportunity arises. Rosie was a social work manager who doesn't like golf, but likes golf club terraces with white wine, sunshine and something good to read. She works as a volunteer in our local Citizens' Advice Bureau.

Our son and daughter have both left the nest and are settled with partners and children. We house-swapped frequently when they were teenagers (France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Italy and USA). Since retirement we've managed a trip to Australia and New Zealand, and a house swap in California, Boston and Sydney.

I play at South Winchester Golf Club with a friendly crowd of welcoming people. Golf clubs and electric trolley available if we can swap!

We'd love to do another trip to Australia, which would have to involve Sydney and Melbourne. Perhaps a four week period in September/October 2016. We're not ready to commit at the moment, but if you are looking for 2016, we may be right for you. We'd love to hear from you, however tentatively.

We're open to offers nearer home (i.e. Europe) during spring/summer 2012, for a week or two.

We live very close to the historic centre of Winchester, with local shops 100m away. We can walk into town in 15 minutes and get to all of Winchester's attractions and amenities: cathedral, the Great Hall with King Arthur's Round Table (it actually only dates from the 14th century), and various sites from Roman, Saxon, and medieval England. There are strong connections with Alfred the Great, William the Conqueror and Oliver Cromwell. We have a good library and leisure centre (tennis, pool and gym) in town. There's an historic theatre, a great comfortable cinema and good range of eating possibilities, from pizza to Michelin star.

As a touring centre, we are well placed. We can walk to the railway station in 5 minutes. Frequent trains to Waterloo Station in London take an hour. A 15 minute walk over the Thames from Waterloo takes you to Trafalgar Square. Buses and tube to all parts of central London in minutes.

Oxford is an hour in the car. Salisbury and Stonehenge 40 minutes. The New Forest - 30 minutes. The stunning Dorset Coast? An hour and a bit. Bristol and Bath- about 1.5 hours in the car.

Fancy a trip to Scotland, Ireland, France or Amsterdam?? Our local Southampton Airport is 10 minutes away by train. Have a look at flybe.com for cheap(ish) flights. London Heathrow airport is an hour by car (45 minutes to BA's Terminal 5). There's a National Express Bus service from Winchester to Heathrow, which beats driving.

Apart from the busy motorways, driving in rural Hampshire is easy. There are small market towns such as Romsey and Alresford and countless villages with village greens and pubs with gardens. Try the Bush at Ovington - beer and sandwiches (or steaks) by a trout stream.
